Description

Prince Guillaume, Hereditary Grand Duke of Luxembourg (given names: Guillaume Jean Joseph Marie; born 11 November 1981), has been heir apparent to the crown of Luxembourg since his father's accession in 2000.

Obverse

Depicts the effigy of Grand Duke Henri on the right side of the inner part, superimposed on the effigy of Hereditary Grand Duke Guillaume on the left side; both are looking to the right. The year appears below the effigies, flanked by the letter S (for Suomi) on the left and the mint mark of the Mint of Finland (Cornucopia) on the right. The inscription Luxembourg appears above the effigies along the upper edge of the inner part of the coin. The twelve stars of the European Union surround the design on the outer ring.

In 2008 the Central Bank of Luxembourg issued a numismatic collection consisting of six Proof commemorative coins of 2004-2008. They were minted in the Paris Mint and the year 2005 surrounded by the mint mark on the left (Cornucopia) and the mint director Hubert Larivière's mark on the right (Hunting horn, a wave and a fish).

Reverse

A geographical map of Western Europe spans the outer ring and inner core on the right side of the coin. The inscription 2 EURO is superimposed over the map of Europe, with the numeral “2” located in an open field representing the eastern Atlantic Ocean.

12 stars are located on the right side of the outer ring, with six stars atop the map of Europe and six stars below it; six vertical stripes cut across the inner core of the coin, visually connecting the upper and lower star segments.

Luc Luycx, a designer at the Royal Belgian Mint, designed the Euro’s common reverse; his initials, LL, are seen on the right side of the design, just under the “O” in “EURO.”
