Description
The Winter Universiade 2019 is an international student and youth competitions, which is scheduled to take place from March 2 to 12, 2019 in the Russian city of Krasnoyarsk. Winter Universiades have never taken place in Russia, nor in the USSR. The Winter Universiade 2019 is the third Universiade to be hosted by Russia. The first Universiade was held in Moscow in 1973, and the second was hosted by Kazan in 2013.
Krasnoyarsk is located on the Yenisei River. It is the third-largest city in Siberia after Novosibirsk and Omsk. Krasnoyarsk is an important junction of the Trans-Siberian Railway and one of Russia's largest producers of aluminium.
The name Universiade is a combination of the words "University" and "Olympiad". The Universiade is often referred to in English as the World University Games or World Student Games. Students aged 17 to 25, and graduates who have received an academic degree or diploma in the year preceding the competitions, are allowed to participate in the competition.
