The coat of arms of the Republic of South Sudan consists an African fish eagle holding a crossed spear and spade, symbolizing the people’s resolve to protect the sovereignty of their republic and work hard to feed it. The eagle is depicted as looking towards its right shoulder with wings outstretched, and it holds in its claws a scroll bearing the name of the state. The eagle signifies strength, resilience, vision, and majesty.

Reverse

Depicts Northern white rhinoceros, denomination above.

A rhinoceros (meaning "nose horn"), often abbreviated to rhino, are some of the largest remaining megafauna. The northern white rhinoceros, or northern square-lipped rhinoceros (Ceratotherium simum cottoni), is one of two subspecies of the white rhinoceros (the other being the southern white rhinoceros). Formerly found in several countries in East and Central Africa south of the Sahara, this subspecies is a grazer in grasslands and savanna woodlands. Since 19 March 2018, there are only two known rhinos of this subspecies left, both of which are female; barring the existence of unknown or misclassified male northern white rhinos elsewhere in Africa, this makes the subspecies functionally extinct.
