Description

The Central Bank of Kuwait (CBK) was established on 30 June 1968 and serves as Kuwait's central banking institution, responsible for implementing and maintaining a stringent currency system on behalf of the state. In addition to overseeing the Kuwaiti stock market in conjunction with entities such as the Kuwait Stock Exchange, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, and the Ministry of Finance, the CBK plays a crucial regulatory role.

Sheikh Jaber al-Ahmad al-Sabah (1926–2006) of the al-Sabah dynasty, was the Emir of Kuwait and Commander of the Military of Kuwait; serving from 31 December 1977 until his death. He had previously served as minister of finance and Economy from 1962 until 1965, when he was appointed prime minister prior to becoming Kuwait's ruler.

Situated on a peninsula in Kuwait City overlooking the Persian Gulf, the Kuwait Towers comprise three sleek towers. They represent the final addition to the Kuwait Water Towers system, which encompasses 34 towers, with one specifically designated for equipment storage. Distinguished by their unique architectural style, unlike previous installations, the Kuwait Towers were officially inaugurated in March 1979, swiftly becoming an iconic emblem of contemporary Kuwait.

Following a maintenance period spanning from March 2012 to March 8, 2016, punctuated by a spectacular fireworks exhibition upon reopening, management of the towers was assumed by the state-owned Touristic Enterprises Company. Notably, the Main Tower served as the venue for the TEDxKuwaitCity event in both 2018 and 2019.
