The Central Bank of Kuwait (CBK) was established on 30 June 1968 and serves as Kuwait's central banking institution, responsible for implementing and maintaining a stringent currency system on behalf of the state. In addition to overseeing the Kuwaiti stock market in conjunction with entities such as the Kuwait Stock Exchange, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, and the Ministry of Finance, the CBK plays a crucial regulatory role.
Sheikh Jaber al-Ahmad al-Sabah (1926–2006) of the al-Sabah dynasty, was the Emir of Kuwait and Commander of the Military of Kuwait; serving from 31 December 1977 until his death. He had previously served as minister of finance and Economy from 1962 until 1965, when he was appointed prime minister prior to becoming Kuwait's ruler.
