Description

In 1898, the Department of Chemistry was established by a decision of the Council of Principals as a government laboratory to examine the Egyptian government's imports of foodstuffs, clothing, products, all agricultural products and raw materials.

• In 1916, the Department of Payment of Jewelery was annexed to it, and in 1921 the State Oil Refinery in Suez was annexed.

• In 1930, a branch of the Authority was established in Alexandria to determine customs duties and control imports to protect the national industry.

• In 1934, the Authority was transferred to its current headquarters at 12 Ramses St., Cairo.

• In 1956 the Ministry of Industry was established in the Arab Republic of Egypt, and the Department of Chemistry was included in it.

• In 1960, a branch of authority was established in Suez to serve the port and the canal cities.

• In 1990, the Authority's branch was established in Assiut to serve the cities of Upper Egypt.

The Department of Chemistry has a vital role in serving Egyptian citizens to protect them from commercial fraud and ensure that the products offered in the market conform to standard specifications in cooperation with regulatory authorities such as the Industrial Control Authority - Supply Directorates in all governorates. The Department of Chemistry carries out analyzes, tests and examinations of all imports to determine the nature of the variety and its characteristics to assist the Customs Department in determining the correct customs items on imports in coordination and cooperation with the Export and Import Control Authority. The Department of Chemistry is the official government laboratory entrusted with conducting examination, analysis and tests for raw materials, industrial and agricultural products for regulatory authorities, public and private business sectors, companies, factories and individuals, in order to ensure their compliance with the Egyptian standard specifications.

Thoth is an ancient Egyptian deity. In art, he was often depicted as a man with the head of an ibis or a baboon, animals sacred to him. His feminine counterpart was Seshat, and his wife was Ma'at. He was the god of wisdom, writing, hieroglyphs, science, magic, art, judgment, and the dead. His Greek equivalent is Hermes.
