Description

In many fields and for many reasons rural women are at a disadvantage compared to women living in cities and urban regions.

Obverse

Depicts the national emblem of the Democratic Republic of the Sudan (1970–1985) dates in Gregorian (left) and Islamic year (right) in Arabic numerals below.

The emblem shows a secretarybird bearing a shield from the time of Muhammad Ahmad, the self-proclaimed Mahdi who briefly ruled Sudan in the 19th century. Two scrolls are placed on the arms; the upper one displays the national motto, ("Victory is ours"), and the lower one displays the title of the state.

The secretarybird was chosen as a distinctively Sudanese and indigenous variant of the "Eagle of Saladin" and "Hawk of Quraish" seen in the emblems of some Arab states, and associated with Arab nationalism.

Reverse

Depicts the denomination in the middle, a Sudanese woman wearing a traditional dress with a traditional manual machine in the background, inscription "Improving Conditions of Rural Women" above.

Regarding attire, Sudanese women commonly don the "Chadur," an elongated piece of fabric that envelops the entire body, including the head. The Chadur is typically utilized as an outer garment and is paired with the "Tob," a head covering, and the "Hijab," a modest dress code adhered to by many Muslim women.
