Obverse

Depicts the coat of arms of Somalia, surrounded by denominations in Arabic above, English, and Italian below. The date of the issue on the right. Mint mark and purity below.

The coat of arms of Somalia, adopted on October 10, 1956, features a shield embellished with the Somali flag, accompanied by two Leopards standing atop crossed spears. Positioned at the center of the flag is the Star of Unity, and a crown adorns the top of the shield. Completing the emblem are crossed spears underneath, entwined with a ribbon.

Depicts Somalia president Aden Adde facing three-quarters left surrounded by country name in Italian and Arabic above and date below. Mint mark below on the left.

Aden Abdulle Osman Da’ar (1908–2007), popularly known as Aden Adde, was a Somali politician who served as the first president of the Somali Republic from July 1, 1960 to July 6, 1967.

In 1960, Osman Daar garnered national attention, and won the favor of the Somali people. He was formally and democratically elected as the first president of Somalia on July 1, 1960. On July 1, 1960, the United Nations approved Somalia's independence, and subsequently united with the former British protectorate of British Somaliland, which had already obtained its independence on June 26, 1960. His administration was focused on dismantling the legacy of colonialism and fostering unity among the Somali people.
