Obverse

Depicts the national emblem of Bangladesh, denomination below.

The national emblem of Bangladesh was adopted shortly after independence in 1971. Located on the emblem is a water lily, that is bordered on two sides by rice sheaves. Above the water lilly are four stars and three connected jute leaves. The water lily is the country's national flower, and is representative of the many rivers that run through Bangladesh. Rice represents its presence as the staple food of Bangladesh, and for the agriculture of that nation. The four stars represent the four founding principles that were originally enshrined in the first constitution of Bangladesh in 1972: nationalism, secularism, socialism, and democracy.

Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, fondly known as Bangabandhu, was a Bangladeshi politician, revolutionary, and statesman who played a pivotal role in the country's independence movement. Serving as president or prime minister from 1971 until his assassination in 1975, he led Bangladesh to sovereignty after centuries of colonial rule. His nationalist ideology, socio-political theories, and doctrines, often referred to as Mujibism, shaped the nation's trajectory. Mujib's charismatic leadership and diplomatic initiatives, including normalizing ties with other nations, left a lasting impact. Despite controversy over his regime's economic management and authoritarianism, he remains revered as the Father of the Nation in Bangladesh.
