Description

The revolutionary 2024 Liberty and Britannia Gold Coin marks a historic partnership between two of the world's oldest and largest mints. U.S. Mint Chief Engraver Joseph Menna and Royal Mint Chief Engraver Gordon Summers have joined forces to depict Liberty and Britannia together on a coin for the very first time. Their cohesive design not only celebrates the unity of these iconic figures but also ensures that each receives equal prominence.

Throughout the years, Liberty and Britannia have been allegorical figures featured on numerous coins. American Liberty, portrayed in various forms throughout history, symbolizes a fundamental value cherished by Americans and has adorned U.S. coinage since the early days of the nation. Meanwhile, Britannia, a longstanding symbol on British coins since the late 1600s, serves as the national personification of Britain, often representing maritime power and embodying national pride and unity.

Under the Liberty and Britannia Program, the U.S. coin showcases the collaborative design on the obverse, complemented by a reverse design crafted by Joseph Menna. This same design is also featured on a silver medal. The U.K. coin incorporates the collaborative design on the reverse, with King Charles III depicted on the obverse.

A bullion coin, also referred to as Specie, is a coin made from refined precious metals primarily for investment purposes rather than everyday transactions. These coins, minted by government mints, are identified by their weight, purity, and legal tender value. They can range in purity from 91.9% to 99.99%.
