Depicts a knight in ornate armor, guarding the freedom and unity of Europe. Behind him is the watchtower of Valetta, as well as Fort Saint Angelo in Birgu, which was the Order’s headquarters during the Great Siege of Malta.

Fort St. Angelo, situated in Birgu, Malta, commands the Grand Harbour's center. Originally known as Castrum Maris (Castle by the Sea) in the medieval era, it was rebuilt by the Order of Saint John as Fort Saint Angelo between the 1530s and 1560s. Most notably, it served as the Order's headquarters during the Great Siege of Malta in 1565. Substantial reconstruction under Carlos de Grunenbergh's design occurred in the 1690s, shaping its current appearance. From 1800 to 1979, the British garrisoned the fort, designating it as HMS Egmont or later HMS St Angelo. Although damaged in World War II, it underwent restoration. In 1998, the Sovereign Military Order of Malta assumed control of the fort's upper section. Notably, Fort St. Angelo has been under consideration for UNESCO World Heritage Site status since 1998 as part of Malta's Knights' Fortifications around the Harbours.
