Oman has introduced a contemporary and comprehensive statute aimed at safeguarding its cultural heritage. This legislation stands as one of the latest and most progressive legal frameworks in the Arab world, offering extensive protection for the nation's diverse cultural legacy. The implementation of this statute, with a focus on preserving culture and national heritage, emerged as a significant political objective. In 1994, the official declaration of the "Year of National Heritage" underscored the nation's commitment to this endeavor.
Qaboos bin Said Al Said (1940–2020) was the Sultan of Oman from 23 July 1970 until his death. A fifteenth-generation descendant of the founder of the House of Al Said, he was the longest-serving leader in the Middle East and Arab world at the time of his death.
