Depicts in the background, a frontal view of the Ducal Palace of Pesaro; in the foreground the fountain in Piazza del Popolo, known as "the pupil of Pesaro". Around, the inscription “REPUBBLICA ITALIANA”; on the right, the name of the designer “U.PERNAZZA”.

The Ducal Palace of Pesaro, situated in the heart of Pesaro, Italy, stands as a splendid example of Renaissance architecture. Initially commissioned by the Malatesta family between 1285 and 1429, the current structure was built in the 15th century under the patronage of Alessandro Sforza. Throughout its history, the palace underwent various renovations and expansions, including restorations by Girolamo Genga and additions by Bartolomeo Genga and Filippo Terzi. Adorned with interior paintings by esteemed artists like Federico Brandani, Taddeo Zuccari, and Ludovico Carracci, the palace served as the residence of Papal legates after passing into the hands of the Papal States in 1631. Subsequently, it housed the Prefecture following Italy's unification, and later accommodated the Civic Museum until 1936.

The central feature of Piazza del Popolo is the renowned "Pupil of Pesaro" fountain, crafted by Bernardino Baldi, a prominent humanist, in 1593 under the patronage of Francesco Maria II della Rovere. In 1621, dolphins were incorporated into the fountain to commemorate the wedding of Prince Frederick the Great Oak and Claudia de Medici. Although the fountain suffered destruction during the 1944 bombing, it was meticulously restored in the 1960s to its present form.
