Description

Simón Bolívar (1783–1830) was a Venezuelan military and political leader pivotal in establishing several sovereign states in Latin America, including Venezuela, Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Panama, free from Spanish rule. He served as president of Gran Colombia from 1819 to 1830, orchestrating military campaigns to liberate Ecuador, Peru, and Bolivia, which was named in his honor. Bolívar aimed to unite Spanish America against European threats and the rising power of the United States. Revered alongside Argentine General José de San Martín, he remains a key figure in the early 19th-century Hispanic independence movements.
