Description

Count István Széchenyi de Sárvár-Felsővidék, known in Hungarian as Stephen Széchenyi (1791–1860) was a Hungarian politician, political theorist, and writer. Revered as one of the most eminent statesmen in Hungarian history, he is often referred to as "the Greatest Hungarian" within his homeland.

Engraver: Zoltán Képíró

Obverse

Depicts a bust of István Széchenyi, with the inscription 'SZÉCHENYI' placed beneath it. To the right of this, diagonally and vertically aligned, shield-shaped emblems symbolizing commerce, industry, and transportation. The titles of István Széchenyi's three major works, 'HITEL • VILÁG • STÁDIUM' (Credit-World-Stadium), along with their publication dates '1830—1833' are below.

In an effort to expand his audience, Széchenyi opted to share his thoughts through publication. His collection of political essays, including "Credit" (1830), "Light" (1831), and "Stadium" (1833), targeted the Hungarian nobility. Széchenyi criticized their conservative stance and urged them to relinquish feudal privileges, such as tax exemptions, while taking the lead in driving forward modernization efforts.
