Description

Kuwait University (KU) was founded in October 1966 by Act No. 29/1966 and officially opened on November 27, 1966. Its inception comprised the establishment of the College of Science, the College of Arts, the College of Education, and the College for Women. As the first public institution of higher education and research in the state, KU is committed to the preservation and dissemination of knowledge through scholarly pursuits while fostering innovation and advancement in various disciplines. With 17 colleges offering a total of 76 undergraduate and 71 graduate programs, the university provides a comprehensive educational experience.

The university's facilities span across six campuses, providing programs in the fields of sciences, engineering, humanities, medicine, and social sciences. Students have the opportunity to earn Bachelor's, Master's, and Doctoral degrees. In November 2015, Kuwait University hosted the Kuwait Global Technopreneurship Challenge (KGTC).

Sheikh Jaber al-Ahmad al-Sabah (1926–2006) of the al-Sabah dynasty, was the Emir of Kuwait and Commander of the Military of Kuwait; serving from 31 December 1977 until his death. He had previously served as minister of finance and Economy from 1962 until 1965, when he was appointed prime minister prior to becoming Kuwait's ruler.

The emblem of Kuwait was created in 1962 and it consists of the shield of the flag design in color superimposed on a golden falcon (Hawk of Quraish) with wings displayed. The falcon supports a disk containing a boom sailing ship, a type of dhow, with the full name of the state written (in Arabic) at the top of the disk.
