Description

In 2014, United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon acknowledged Sabah as a global humanitarian leader and bestowed upon him a Humanitarian Award. Ban expressed, "It is with great pleasure and honor that I am here today to commend the leadership of His Highness Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah, the Emir of Kuwait."

Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah (1929–2020) was the Emir of Kuwait from 24 January 2006 until his death in 2020.

Obverse

Depicts a bust of Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah within the ornamented crescent, smiling, wearing traditional bisht and gotra, with agal facing slightly right, inscription in Arabic above and date below.

An agal (Arabic: عِقَال) is an Arab men's clothing accessory. It is a black cord, worn doubled, used to keep a ghutrah (or keffiyeh) in place on the wearer's head. It is traditionally made of goat hair.

Reverse

Depicts the national emblem of Kuwait state on the right, the emblem of the United Nations Organization in blue on the left, with the legend "Central Bank of Kuwait" below inside an ornamented crescent surrounded by inscription and denomination below in Arabic letters and English.

The emblem of Kuwait was created in 1962 and it consists of the shield of the flag design in color superimposed on a golden falcon (Hawk of Quraish) with wings displayed. The falcon supports a disk containing a boom sailing ship, a type of dhow, with the full name of the state written (in Arabic) at the top of the disk.

The emblem of the United Nations Organization depicts a map of the world representing an azimuthal equidistant projection centred on the North Pole, inscribed in a wreath consisting of crossed conventionalized branches of the olive tree. The projection of the map extends to 60 degrees south latitude, and includes five concentric circles. The olive branches are a symbol for peace, and the world map represents all the people and the countries of the world.
