Description

Sheikh Jaber al-Ahmad al-Sabah (1926–2006) of the al-Sabah dynasty, was the Emir of Kuwait and Commander of the Military of Kuwait; serving from 31 December 1977 until his death. He had previously served as minister of finance and Economy from 1962 until 1965, when he was appointed prime minister prior to becoming Kuwait's ruler.

Kuwait National day (يوم الكويت الوطني) is celebrated on 25th Feb every Year with vigor and enthusiasm, it is considered the most remarkable day in the Arab World. Kuwaitis celebrated their first Independence Day on June 19, 1961.

Obverse

Depicts a side view of Seif Palace with its name and establishment date below surrounded by country name in Arabic and English above and inscription below within and Islamic banner all embellished with Islamic ornaments.

Seif Palace is a former administrative palace and occupied the former seat of the rule of Kuwait; His Highness the Emir. It is located opposite the Grand Mosque and is highlighted by a distinctive watchtower, covered in blue tiles and with a roof plated in pure gold. Local materials such as clay, rocks, limestone, wood, and metals were used in its construction which took place back in 1904. The palace is one of the oldest buildings in Kuwait and was further renovated in 1909, 1964, & 1987.

Reverse

Depicts an outer view of Seif Palace with a flag of Kuwait on it date below surrounded by an inscription in Arabic above and English below all embellished with Islamic ornaments.

The flag of Kuwait is divided into three equal horizontal stripes, the top one being green, the middle white and the bottom red, with the side next to the flag pole forming the base of a black trapezoid protruding into the stripes. The colours of the flag are derived from a poem by Safie Al-Deen Al-Hili.
