Description

Djibouti, formally known as the Republic of Djibouti, is situated in the Horn of Africa. It shares borders with Somalia to the south, Ethiopia to the southwest, Eritrea to the north, and is surrounded by the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden to the east. The country covers an area of 23,200 km2 (8,958 sq mi).

Independence Day in Djibouti, celebrated annually on 27 June, holds significant national importance, marking the territory's liberation from French colonial rule. Following a referendum held on 8 May 1977, which saw the French Territory of the Afars and the Issas declare independence, Djibouti emerged as an independent nation. This day is commemorated with a national holiday, granting workers a day of rest. Festivities include military parades, fireworks, concerts, fairs, and political speeches, along with various public and private events honoring Djibouti's rich history and culture.
