Description

The fifth release of the "Sustainable World – Endangered Animals" color series, focusing on the koala, was launched in 2024.

The koala, a marsupial native to Australia and the sole member of the family Phascolarctidae, is known for its stout body, large head, and distinctive appearance with round, fluffy ears and a large, dark nose. Found mainly in coastal regions of eastern and southern Australia, koalas primarily inhabit Eucalyptus woodlands, feeding on the leaves of these trees. They are largely sedentary, sleeping up to twenty hours a day, and have limited social interactions. Despite their iconic status as symbols of Australia, koalas face threats from habitat destruction and various pathogens, leading to their classification as a vulnerable species.
