Description

Aladdin is a popular Middle-Eastern folk tale, often linked with The Book of One Thousand and One Nights (The Arabian Nights), although it was not originally part of the collection. The story was introduced by the Frenchman Antoine Galland, who heard it from the Syrian Maronite storyteller Hanna Diyab and included it in later editions of the book.

The tale follows Aladdin, a destitute youth in Ancient China, who is deceived by a sorcerer posing as his late father's brother. Persuaded to retrieve a magic lamp from a cave, Aladdin finds himself trapped until he summons a genie with a magic ring. With the genie's aid, he amasses wealth, marries Princess Badroulbadour, and builds a grand palace. However, the sorcerer steals the lamp, prompting Aladdin to reclaim it with the help of another genie. Later, the sorcerer's brother seeks revenge, but Aladdin, warned by the lamp genie, defeats him and eventually ascends to the throne.

Djibouti adopted its national emblem upon gaining independence from France on June 27, 1977. The emblem features laurel branches on the sides and encloses a vertical spear with a shield in front. Below the shield, two hands holding large machetes represent the nation's main ethnic groups, the Afar and the Issa. At the top of the spear is a red star, symbolizing unity between the Issa and Afar peoples.
