Notre Dame de Paris, meaning "Our Lady of Paris" in French, is commonly referred to simply as Notre Dame. It is a medieval Catholic cathedral situated on the Île de la Cité, an island in the Seine River, located in the 4th arrondissement of Paris, France. Dedicated to the Virgin Mary, the cathedral is renowned as one of the finest examples of French Gothic architecture. It distinguishes itself from earlier Romanesque styles through innovations such as the pioneering use of rib vaults and flying buttresses, as well as its impressive and vibrant rose windows. The cathedral is further characterized by the naturalism and abundance of its sculptural decoration. Noteworthy features include three pipe organs, one of which is of historical significance, and its grand church bells.
