Description

The Tour de France is an annual men's multiple stage bicycle race primarily held in France, while also occasionally passing through nearby countries. Like the other Grand Tours (the Giro d'Italia and the Vuelta a España), it consists of 21 day-long stages over the course of 23 days.

The race was first organized in 1903 to increase sales for the newspaper L'Auto. The race has been held annually since its first edition in 1903 except when it was stopped for the two World Wars. Traditionally, the race is held primarily in the month of July. While the route changes each year, the format of the race stays the same with the appearance of time trials, the passage through the mountain chains of the Pyrenees and the Alps, and the finish on the Champs-Élysées in Paris.

Depicts the national arms within the wreath, country name in French above and denomination between the metal, purity and weight below.

Djibouti adopted its national emblem upon gaining independence from France on June 27, 1977. The emblem features laurel branches on the sides and encloses a vertical spear with a shield in front. Below the shield, two hands holding large machetes represent the nation's main ethnic groups, the Afar and the Issa. At the top of the spear is a red star, symbolizing unity between the Issa and Afar peoples.

The majority of Tour de France stages take place within mainland France, but since the mid-1950s, it has become customary to venture into neighboring countries. Including the upcoming 2024 event, the Tour will have traversed thirteen different countries throughout its history: Andorra, Belgium, Denmark, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Monaco, the Netherlands, Spain, San Marino, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom, each hosting stages or part of a stage. Since 1975, the race has concluded on the Champs-Élysées in Paris. Previously, from 1903 to 1967, the finish line was at the Parc des Princes stadium in western Paris, and from 1968 to 1974, it was at the Piste Municipale south of the capital. In the 111th edition, due to the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, the race will conclude outside Paris for the first time, specifically at the Place Masséna in Nice.
