Wind power (windenergie) harnesses wind energy to produce electricity, primarily through wind turbines grouped in wind farms connected to the grid. In 2022, wind energy contributed over 2000 TWh, constituting about 7% of global electricity and 2% of overall energy. Despite adding approximately 100 GW of capacity in 2021, mainly in China and the US, global expansion needs to accelerate to align with climate goals. Considered renewable and environmentally friendly, wind power requires energy storage for reliability due to its variability. While onshore wind farms have a visible landscape impact, offshore ones offer higher capacity factors despite being costlier. With wind power being among the cheapest energy sources, regions at higher latitudes show the most potential. Combining wind with solar power complements energy generation, particularly in regions with fluctuating weather patterns.
"Windenergy" concludes the trilogy of coins themed around "Energy of the Future." This coin features striking white, grey, and black hues, with certain fluorescent elements that illuminate in darkness.

"Dominus Providebit," meaning "the Lord will provide," originated from Genesis 22:8 and was initially featured on Bern coins in 1716. To enhance protection against counterfeiting, the Federal Mint incorporated this motto into the border script of the 20-franc pieces in 1886. DOMICNUS | PROVIDEBIT *********** | ** |
