Description

The Arab Capital of Culture initiative, led by the Arab League in collaboration with UNESCO's Cultural Capitals Program, aims to promote and celebrate Arab culture while fostering cooperation within the region.

Queen Rania Al Abdullah emphasized the significance of Amman being designated as the Culture Capital of the Arab World for 2002, envisioning it as a catalyst for Jordan's cultural advancement locally, regionally, and internationally. She engaged in discussions with Jordanian artists, writers, musicians, and media representatives to gather insights and suggestions for the event and the broader cultural movement in Jordan.

Abdullah II bin Al-Hussein (born 30 January 1962) has been King of Jordan since 1999 upon the death of his father King Hussein. Abdullah is considered to be the 41st generation direct descendant of the Islamic Prophet Muhammad, through his belonging to the ancient Hashemite family, which has ruled Jordan since 1921.
