The Hungarian Red Cross was founded on February 10, 1881, in Budapest, initiated by Count Sándor Apponyi and backed by the Austro-Hungarian Red Cross. Its mission is to offer humanitarian aid during conflicts and peacetime, as well as to advance health and social welfare nationwide.
Recognized by the International Committee of the Red Cross in 1882, it became a member of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies in 1921. Guided by the Geneva Conventions and additional protocols, it collaborates with international bodies to support victims of war. Providing aid to vulnerable populations like the elderly, disabled individuals, refugees, migrants, and those in need, the organization relies on volunteers, staff, and diverse funding sources to carry out its noble mission, guided by principles of impartiality, neutrality, independence, voluntary service, unity, and universality.
