Description

János Adorján (1882–1964) was a Hungarian mechanical engineer and a notable trailblazer in Hungarian aviation. He earned his mechanical engineering degree in Stuttgart in 1903, studying under Gottlieb Daimler. From 1906 to 1909, he worked in the automotive industry in Paris, where he was inspired by the burgeoning French aviation scene. Upon returning to Hungary, he designed and oversaw the production of his airplane and engine by local companies, making him the country's first to achieve this feat. In 1909, with the backing of Count Géza Andrássy, he constructed his aircraft, named "Libelle" (Dragonfly), powered by a two-cylinder (18.4 kW) Adorján-Dedics engine, modeled after the Blériot monoplane. He successfully completed his maiden flight on January 10, 1910, marking the first instance of a Hungarian pilot flying an aircraft designed and built in Hungary.
