Tivadar Puskás devised the telephone news messenger to deliver the quickest news service possible. Using a single microphone, news was broadcast simultaneously to various points in the city. The news, presented in telegram style by a dedicated editorial team, was continuously repeated for an hour. Alongside political, local, public interest, and stock market updates, the device also periodically announced the precise Central European time. Its operation commenced on February 15, 1893.
