Located in the northeastern part of Hungary, the Tokaj Wine Region Historic Cultural Landscape celebrates the nation's rich winemaking legacy. Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2002, it has charmed wine enthusiasts with its production of Tokaji wine, known as the "wine of kings" or the "king of wines."
Tokaji Aszú, the region's flagship wine, is crafted with meticulous attention. Winemakers carefully select botrytized grapes, known as Aszú berries, to create this exceptional beverage. Beyond its winemaking prestige, Tokaj has a storied past. Dating back centuries, Tokaji wine gained fame in the 17th and 18th centuries, captivating European royalty and aristocracy.
Today, the Tokaj Wine Region continues to enthrall visitors with its cultural significance and scenic vistas. Historic wine cellars scatter the landscape, offering a glimpse into age-old winemaking traditions.
The collector coin is part of the Europa Coin Programme, also known as the European Silver Programme, or the Eurostar Programme. It is an initiative dedicated to the issuance of collector-oriented legal tender coins in precious metals to celebrate European identity. The issuing authorities of EU member countries voluntarily contribute coins to the Europa Coin Programme. Multiple countries have participated in the programme, beginning in 2004. Some coins are denominated in euro, others are denominated in other currencies.
