Established in 1997, the Danube-Ipoly National Park (Duna-Ipoly National Park, DINP) is one of Hungary's most biodiverse national parks. It encompasses the former Pilis and Börzsöny landscape protection areas, extending to the Ipoly River and its floodplains, Danube islands, and parts of Szentendrei Island.
The park is home to unique fauna and flora, with various programs aimed at protecting endangered species. It also contains over 400 caves, including the Leány-Legény Cave System. The vegetation is diverse and transitional, with the Danube serving as a floristic barrier.
The park's landscape is a blend of river valleys, mountains, and plains. The Börzsöny, Pilis, and Visegrád Mountains each have distinct geological formations and support a variety of forest types, from oak to beech forests. Along the Danube and Ipoly Rivers, riparian meadows and gallery forests feature unique plant species like water speedwell and red bugleweed.
