Description

The Hungarian National Bank issued a gold commemorative coin "Gold Florin of Albert Habsburg" as the fifth piece in the series of Medieval Hungarian gold forints.

Albert the Magnanimous, also known as Albert II (1397–1439), was a significant figure in the Holy Roman Empire and the House of Habsburg. As Albert V, he inherited the Duchy of Austria and through his marriage to Elisabeth of Luxembourg, he also became King of Hungary, Croatia, and Bohemia.

He played a vital role in the Hussite Wars, supporting his father-in-law, King Sigismund of Hungary. Upon Sigismund's death in 1437, Albert became King of Hungary and Bohemia, although he struggled to control Bohemia. Elected King of the Romans in 1438, he defended Hungary against Turkish invasions but died in 1439. Despite his short reign, Albert's military and political efforts were pivotal in the region. His involvement in the Hussite Wars marked his commitment to defending the Catholic faith against perceived heresy.
