Description

The Magyar Nemzeti Bank issued commemorative coins to mark the 150th anniversary of the Hungarian Prosecutor's Office.

A significant milestone in Hungarian legal history is Act XXXIII of 1871, which established the Hungarian Royal Prosecutor's Office. This law highlighted the necessity of creating an institution for public prosecution, ensuring that "the distinct roles of judge, public prosecutor, and defense counsel are separated and assigned to independent entities." This act laid the foundation for Hungary's modern justice system by clearly defining and separating the roles of the judge, public prosecutor, and defense attorney into independent organizations. The law was enacted on June 10, 1871, and while the prosecutor's office has evolved over the years, its fundamental role has remained consistent.

As an independent state body, the prosecutor's office contributes to the administration of justice by acting as the public prosecutor in criminal proceedings and overseeing the legality of investigations, sentence executions, and the operations of public administration and other institutions, as outlined in Article XXIX of the Basic Law. For 150 years, the core mission of the prosecutor's office has been to "represent the public interests of the state in the administration of justice," safeguarding legal order and society.

Reverse

Depicts a fasces — a bundle of rods with a double-edged axe — originating from the Roman Republic, complemented at the top by a flame motif and in the middle by a lion's head holding a two-armed scale in its mouth. To the left of the depiction, in two horizontal lines, are the denomination and the inscription "FORINT" at the top, and the mint mark "BP." at the bottom. The engraver's privy mark is located at the bottom right. Under at least tenfold magnification, the mint mark features micro-inscriptions displaying letters identical to the mint mark's letter. The central field is bordered by paragraph symbols, interrupted at the bottom by the inscription "HUNGARY" in a circular inscription. Around the edge, in a circular inscription, the text "THE PROSECUTION ORGANIZATION HAS BEEN AN ACTIVE PARTICIPANT IN THE ADMINISTRATION OF JUSTICE FOR 150 YEARS" can be read.
