The Hortobágy National Park is Hungary's first and largest national park, established in 1973. Initially, the Hortobágy National Park encompassed an area of 52,000 hectares, but through continuous expansions and mergers, it has grown to approximately 82,000 hectares today. Since 1999, our first national park has been part of UNESCO's World Heritage. It preserves visible evidence of traditional grazing land use dating back over two thousand years and exemplifies the harmonious relationship between humans and nature. The puszta - a cultural landscape shaped by pastoral societies - is characterized by a unique pattern and combination of outstanding landscape features, such as the endless horizon punctuated by distant wells and the silhouettes of wild and domestic animals.
