Description

Ferenc Deák de Kehida (1803–1876) was a prominent Hungarian statesman and Minister of Justice, earning the nickname "The Wise Man of the Nation." He played a pivotal role in key events of Hungarian history, including the passage of the April laws, the Austro-Hungarian Compromise of 1867, and the Hungarian Nationalities Law (1868). Throughout his career, Deák was praised for his ability to negotiate reasonable compromises between various political factions, earning him a reputation as one of Hungary's most influential figures in the liberal movement.

Obverse

Depicts on the right side, the portrait of Ferenc Deák, based on Franz Eybl's lithograph from 1842. To the right of the depiction, the engraver's privy mark is visible. On the left side of the central field, parallel to the vertical line, Ferenc Deák's signature, along with the years of his birth and death, "1803" and "1876", are inscribed. Along the edge, in a circular inscription, Ferenc Deák's admonition reads: "WE CAN RISK EVERYTHING FOR THE HOMELAND, BUT WE SHOULD NEVER RISK THE HOMELAND FOR ANYTHING".

Depicts in a circular outline, in the central field, the inscription "HUNGARY" at the top, at the bottom the mintmark "BP." and the issue year "2023", on the left side, interrupted by the outline, the denomination and the inscription "FORINT" in two rows, on the right side, the wax seal impression of the 1848 Minister of Justice. Along the edge, in a circular inscription, the inscription "FERENC DEÁK, THE FIRST RESPONSIBLE HUNGARIAN GOVERNMENT MINISTER OF JUSTICE".
