The star and crescent is an iconographic symbol used in various historical contexts but most well known today as a symbol of the former Ottoman Empire and, by popular extension, the Islamic world. It appears on the national flag and state emblem of Pakistan.

The Badshahi Mosque ("Imperial Mosque") is a Mughal-era mosque in Lahore, the capital of Pakistan's Punjab province. Situated west of Lahore Fort on the outskirts of the Walled City of Lahore, the mosque was commissioned by Emperor Aurangzeb in 1671 and completed in 1673. It is a significant example of Mughal architecture, featuring an exterior adorned with carved red sandstone and marble inlay. The mosque is the largest from the Mughal era and the second-largest in Pakistan. Following the decline of the Mughal Empire, it served as a garrison for both the Sikh and British Empires. Today, it stands as one of Pakistan's most iconic landmarks.
