Description

Miki Muster (1925-2018), born Nikolaj Muster, was a Slovenian sculptor, illustrator, cartoonist, and animator. A graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts, University of Ljubljana, he became interested in animation after seeing Disney's Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Despite aspirations to join Disney, post-war political constraints kept him in Slovenia. Muster began his notable comic strip Zvitorepec in 1952 and later transitioned to freelance work after 1973, following a stint at Bavaria Film in Munich. His work, which often faced criticism under the Communist regime for being too Western, earned him numerous accolades, including the Prešeren Award and the Borut Meško Award.

Obverse

Depicts Miki Muster's three comic characters from left to right: the turtle Trdonja, the fox Zvitorepec, and the wolf Lakotnik. Muster's birth year "1925" and his name are displayed above, with the year of issue "2025" and the issuing country below. The twelve stars of the European flag are shown on the outer ring.

Muster's most beloved characters—Zvitorepec, Trdonja, and Lakotnik—are drawn from Slovenian folklore. Zvitorepec, a clever fox; Trdonja, a wise turtle; and Lakotnik, a perpetually hungry wolf, embark on adventures across various settings, including the Wild West and outer space. These stories not only entertained but also addressed contemporary issues like pollution and road safety. Despite some criticism for his Disneyesque style, Muster's characters became iconic, captivating generations of Slovenian children and teens.

Reverse

A geographical map of Western Europe spans the outer ring and inner core on the right side of the coin. The inscription 2 EURO is superimposed over the map of Europe, with the numeral “2” located in an open field representing the eastern Atlantic Ocean.

12 stars are located on the right side of the outer ring, with six stars atop the map of Europe and six stars below it; six vertical stripes cut across the inner core of the coin, visually connecting the upper and lower star segments.

Luc Luycx, a designer at the Royal Belgian Mint, designed the Euro’s common reverse; his initials, LL, are seen on the right side of the design, just under the “O” in “EURO.”
