Description

Commercial Bank of Dubai (CBD) is a UAE banking and financial services corporation headquartered in Deira, Dubai, with assets exceeding $23 billion. Gulf Business ranks it as the 7th largest bank in the UAE based on total assets, and it is listed on the Dubai Financial Market index.

Founded in 1969 by an Amiri Decree from the late Rashid Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, CBD began as a joint venture with Commerzbank, Chase Manhattan Bank, and Commercial Bank of Kuwait. By 1982, it became a National Public shareholding company, with 80% of its shares held by UAE nationals and 20% by the Investment Corporation of Dubai. CBD offers a range of services, including wholesale, corporate, retail, business, SME, private, and affluent banking.

Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan (1948–2022), the UAE's second president and ruler of Abu Dhabi from November 2004 to May 2022, was the eldest son of the UAE's first president, Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. He took on a significant role in the late 1990s due to his father's health issues and officially became Abu Dhabi's leader in 2004. His tenure saw cultural and academic growth, including the Louvre Abu Dhabi and Etihad Airways. Under his leadership, the UAE became a major economic power. Known for his pro-Western stance, he strengthened ties with the US and Israel.
