Description

The 2003 FIFA World Youth Championship was the 14th edition of the tournament and was held in the United Arab Emirates from 27 November to 19 December 2003. Brazil won their fourth title, becoming the first country to simultaneously hold all three World Cups in the same gender category (senior, under-20, and under-17). Originally scheduled for 25 March to 16 April 2003, the tournament was postponed due to the Iraq War.

Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan (1918–2004) was an Emirati leader, credited with founding the United Arab Emirates. He governed the Eastern Region before becoming Abu Dhabi's ruler in 1966 and later the UAE's first president until his passing in 2004. Revered as the "Father of the Nation," he played a pivotal role in uniting the seven emirates. Zayed succeeded his brother as Abu Dhabi's ruler after a peaceful coup in 1966.

The FIFA U-20 World Cup is a biennial football championship for men's national teams with players under 20, organized by FIFA. The tournament has been held every two years since its inception in 1977, when it was first hosted by Tunisia under the name FIFA World Youth Championship until 2005. In 2007, the name was changed to its current form. FIFA promotes the U-20 World Cup as "the tournament of tomorrow's superstars." Notable past winners of the Player of the Tournament award include Diego Maradona, Lionel Messi, and Paul Pogba, while Erling Haaland was the top scorer in the 2019 edition. The current champion is Uruguay, which won its first title at the 2023 tournament in Argentina.
