Description

The Khor Fakkan Amphitheatre, a cultural landmark in Sharjah, is located at the foot of "Al Sayed" mountain facing the beach in Khor Fakkan. Inaugurated by Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi on 14 December 2020, it was later featured on the 10 dirham UAE banknote on 21 April 2022. The amphitheatre spans 190,000 square feet, can accommodate 3,600 individuals, and includes a cooling system. Its semicircular stone facade boasts 234 arches and 295 columns, situated on an elevated hillock with a lobby equipped with six elevators. Additionally, a 45-meter-long waterfall is located nearby, 43 meters above sea level.

Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan (1948–2022), the UAE's second president and ruler of Abu Dhabi from November 2004 to May 2022, was the eldest son of the UAE's first president, Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. He took on a significant role in the late 1990s due to his father's health issues and officially became Abu Dhabi's leader in 2004. His tenure saw cultural and academic growth, including the Louvre Abu Dhabi and Etihad Airways. Under his leadership, the UAE became a major economic power. Known for his pro-Western stance, he strengthened ties with the US and Israel.
