In 2017, the Hungarian National Bank launched a new coin series featuring the Saints of the House of Árpád.
Saint Kinga of Poland (Saint Kinga of House of Árpád) was a Hungarian princess and a significant historical and religious figure in Central Europe. Born in 1224 to King Béla IV of Hungary and Queen Maria Laskarina, she belonged to the Árpád dynasty, one of the most prominent royal houses in Hungary. In 1239, she married Bolesław V the Chaste, the Duke of Lesser Poland.
Kinga was known for her deep piety and dedication to charitable works. She used her wealth to support religious institutions, build churches, and help the poor and sick. She also played a significant role in the development of the salt mines in Bochnia and Wieliczka, which became vital economic resources for the region. After Bolesław's death in 1279, Kinga became a Poor Clare nun and founded the Stary Sącz monastery, where she spent the rest of her life in prayer and service.
Saint Kinga was canonized by Pope John Paul II on June 16, 1999, recognizing her holiness, charitable works, and contributions to the Christian faith. She is venerated as a saint in the Roman Catholic Church, with her feast day celebrated on July 24. Kinga is remembered for her humility, generosity, and spiritual devotion. She is the patron saint of Poland and Lithuania, as well as of salt miners, reflecting her influence on the region's economy and culture.

To the left of the depiction, there is a vertical line pattern running from the upper edge into an illustration of a wedding ring, below which is a stylized image of a salt mine shaft opening. On the left side, parallel to the line pattern, is the inscription "SAINT KINGA OF HOUSE OF ÁRPÁD", while on the right side, in a semicircle around the lily stem illustration, is the word "HUNGARY".
