Description

Diana, Princess of Wales (born Diana Frances Spencer; 1961–1997), was the first wife of Charles III (then Prince of Wales) and the mother of Princes William and Harry. Her activism and glamour made her an international icon, earning her lasting popularity. Born into British nobility, she grew up near the royal family at Park House on the Sandringham estate. In 1981, while working as a nursery teacher's assistant, she became engaged to Charles, and their wedding at St Paul's Cathedral in July 1981 made her Princess of Wales. The couple had two sons, but their marriage faced challenges due to incompatibility and affairs, leading to their separation in 1992 and divorce in 1996.

As Princess of Wales, Diana was known for her charitable work and unconventional approach, focusing initially on children and the elderly and later on AIDS awareness and landmine removal. She also advocated for cancer and mental health awareness. Diana's charisma and friendliness endeared her to the public, and she became a fashion icon of the 1980s and 1990s. She died in a car crash in Paris in August 1997, leading to extensive public mourning and media attention. An inquest concluded her death was an unlawful killing. Diana's legacy significantly impacted the royal family and British society.
