Description

The People's Republic of China (PRC) and the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) have had diplomatic relations since 1961, with contacts dating back to 1887 when the Congo Free State engaged with the Qing dynasty. The first formal treaty was signed in 1898, during a period when the Congo was known as Zaire. In recent years, Chinese investment in the DRC and Congolese exports to China have increased significantly, with the DRC joining China’s Belt and Road Initiative in 2021. The DRC adheres to the One-China policy, recognizing the PRC as the legitimate government of China and considering Taiwan part of China.

China, officially known as the People's Republic of China (PRC), is the world's most populous country and has the second-largest economy globally. Located in East Asia, it is renowned for its rich cultural heritage, which spans thousands of years, as well as for its diverse landscapes, from the Great Wall and the Yangtze River to modern megacities like Beijing and Shanghai. Since its founding in 1949 under the Chinese Communist Party, China has transformed from a largely agrarian society into a global industrial powerhouse and a leader in technology, manufacturing, and infrastructure development. China plays a major role in international affairs and initiatives, such as the Belt and Road Initiative, which aims to build trade networks across Asia, Africa, and Europe. Despite economic growth and modernization, China faces challenges related to environmental sustainability, economic inequality, and balancing tradition with rapid modernization.
