The Holy Door of St. Peter's Basilica is a symbolic and sacred entrance located in the Papal Basilica of St. Peter in the Vatican. Traditionally sealed from the inside, it is only opened during a Jubilee Year, which occurs every 25 years or on special occasions declared by the Pope. Passing through the Holy Door represents the faithful's journey of conversion, reconciliation, and renewal, offering a unique opportunity to receive a plenary indulgence. The door is richly decorated with bronze panels depicting scenes of forgiveness and redemption, highlighting its spiritual significance. Its opening and closing ceremonies, performed by the Pope, are deeply solemn events that attract pilgrims from around the world.

Ichthys (or Ichthus) is an ancient Christian symbol consisting of two intersecting arcs forming the shape of a fish. The term comes from the Greek word ἰχθύς (ichthys), meaning "fish," and serves as an acronym for "Ίησοῦς Χριστός, Θεοῦ Υἱός, Σωτήρ" (Iēsous Christos, Theou Yios, Sōtēr), which translates to "Jesus Christ, Son of God, Savior."

Reverse

A geographical map of Western Europe spans the outer ring and inner core on the right side of the coin. The inscription 2 EURO is superimposed over the map of Europe, with the numeral “2” located in an open field representing the eastern Atlantic Ocean.

12 stars are located on the right side of the outer ring, with six stars atop the map of Europe and six stars below it; six vertical stripes cut across the inner core of the coin, visually connecting the upper and lower star segments.

Luc Luycx, a designer at the Royal Belgian Mint, designed the Euro’s common reverse; his initials, LL, are seen on the right side of the design, just under the “O” in “EURO.”
