The federal government has decided to start the “Federal States II” series, in which a country is to be honoured each year by issuing a 2-euro commemorative coin with a striking landmark. The Federal Republic of Germany has 16 states (German: Bundesländer). The order of the states is based on the presidency of the Bundesrat. The new series focuses in particular on the cultural identity and regional characteristics of the individual countries. It thus follows on from the successful predecessor series "Federal States" (2006 - 2022), which expired in January 2022.

Depicts Klimahaus Bremerhaven, an iconic symbol of scientific exploration and environmental education. The design captures the futuristic structure from a striking perspective below, merging its diverse architectural elements—the glass bridge, elliptical exhibition building, and towering structure—into a unified and dynamic maritime image. The ship-like contours of the building, two soaring seagulls, and a subtle hint of the harbor vividly highlight Bremen’s identity as a hub for science and maritime research. D |
