Ali ibn Musa al-Rida (c. 766–818), also known as Imam Reza, was the eighth Imam of Twelver Shia Islam and a prominent religious and scholarly figure in the early Islamic world. Born in Medina, he was widely respected for his knowledge, wisdom, and piety. He was invited by the Abbasid Caliph Al-Ma'mun to Khorasan and was unexpectedly appointed as his successor, a political move that created tension among the Abbasid elites. However, he never assumed actual power, and many historians believe he was poisoned on Al-Ma'mun's orders. Imam Reza is buried in Mashhad, Iran, where his shrine has become one of the most significant pilgrimage sites in the Islamic world.
