The Quiver Tree (Aloidendron dichotomum) is a distinctive, drought-resistant succulent native to southern Africa, particularly found in Namibia and South Africa. Named after the San people’s practice of using its hollowed-out branches to make quivers for arrows, this tree thrives in arid, rocky landscapes. It features a thick, golden-hued trunk, smooth pale bark, and forked branches topped with clusters of spiky, blue-green leaves. During winter, it produces bright yellow flowers, attracting pollinators like sunbirds and bees. Despite its resilience, climate change and habitat loss threaten its survival, leading to its classification as a vulnerable species. The Quiver Tree Forest in Namibia, home to one of the largest natural populations, is a popular tourist attraction showcasing the tree’s striking beauty.
