Obverse

Depicts the emblem of the Maldives in the center, dividing the Gregorian date in Western Arabic numerals, and angled downward at the upper right is the corresponding Islamic date in Eastern Arabic numbers and the country name in Dhivehi (Dhivehi Raajje) below.

The National Emblem of the Maldives features a rich combination of Islamic and national symbols that reflect the country's heritage and identity. At its center is a coconut palm, symbolizing prosperity and the islands' natural abundance. Flanking the palm are two national flags of the Maldives, crossed to signify unity and patriotism. Below the palm lies a crescent moon, representing Islam, the state religion, while above it is the Islamic Shahada—the declaration of faith in Arabic. The emblem is completed with a scroll bearing the inscription “Ad-Dawlat Al-Mahaldheebiyya” (State of the Mahal), an old Arabic name for the Maldives.
