Ufa, the capital of the Republic of Bashkortostan, played a crucial role in the Soviet Union’s victory during World War II. From the very beginning of the war, Ufa became a refuge and industrial stronghold, providing housing for over 100,000 evacuees and accommodating more than 60 strategically important industrial enterprises relocated from war-torn regions. Among them was the renowned engine plant from Rybinsk, which swiftly resumed production of aircraft engines vital for Soviet fighter planes and bombers. Ufa also became a major oil-processing center, hosting refineries from the southern parts of the USSR—remarkably, every fourth engine during the war ran on fuel produced in Ufa. The city's resilience, industrial might, and the dedication of its people made it an indispensable part of the Soviet war machine, and the honorary title formally commemorates this immense legacy.

The monument to Home Front Workers in Ufa was unveiled on October 8, 2015, in Victory Park to mark the 70th anniversary of the Soviet victory in the Great Patriotic War. Created by sculptor Andrey Kovalchuk, the composition features seven bronze figures representing key professions of the wartime labor front: an oil worker, a steelworker, a woman farmer with her young daughter, an elderly machinist working at a lathe with his grandson, and a seamstress holding a military greatcoat. The monument captures the collective spirit and immense contributions of Soviet civilians who toiled far from the front lines to secure victory.
