Description

In 2005 the Central Bank of Russia commenced a series of bi-metallic 10 Rubles coins paying tribute to the regions of the Russian Federation. According to the Russian Constitution, the Russian Federation consists of republics, krais, oblasts, cities of federal importance, an autonomous oblast, and autonomous okrugs, all of which are equal subjects of the Russian Federation. Three Russian cities of federal importance have a status of both city and separate federal subject. In 1993, there were 89 federal subjects listed. By 2008, the number of federal subjects had been decreased to 83 because of several mergers. In 2014, Sevastopol and the Republic of Crimea became the 84th and 85th federal subjects of Russia.

Depicts the coat of arms of Rostov Oblast, the inscriptions along the rim divided by two dots: above RUSSIAN FEDERATION, below ROSTOV OBLAST.

Rostov Oblast, situated in the Southern Federal District of Russia with its administrative center in Rostov-on-Don, is a captivating destination known for its rich history, picturesque nature, welcoming locals, and distinct Cossack culture. The region boasts the mighty Don River, the expansive Azov Sea and Taganrog Bay, Tsimlyanskoye Reservoir, and the vast Don and Azov steppes, creating a unique and unforgettable landscape. Renowned literary works by Alexander Pushkin and Mikhail Sholokhov are intricately tied to the Don area.

The region's history intertwines with legendary Don Cossacks of the 16th-18th centuries, such as Yermak Timofeyevich, Stepan Razin, Kondratiy Bulavin, Yemelyan Pugachev, and Matvey Platov. Emperors Peter I and Alexander I also left their mark on the history of the Don. Additionally, the birthplace of the world-famous writer A. P. Chekhov is in this region.

Coat of Arms of Rostov Oblast: In the field, a column with a crenellated wall on a wavy band with three towers, the middle one higher. The column is accompanied by historical Don regalia: on the right, a plowshare over a bull's tail and a sickle crossed; on the left, a mace over a sickle with an eagle and a bunchuk crossed.

Shield-bearer: a double-headed eagle, each head adorned with the Russian Imperial crown and crowned in the center by the large Russian crown. Behind the shield, four crossed flags of Rostov Oblast. The flagpoles are entwined with the ribbon of the Order of Lenin.
