Description

Bhumibol Adulyadej (1927–2016), conferred with the title King Bhumibol the Great in 1987, was the ninth monarch of Thailand from the Chakri dynasty as Rama IX. Reigning since 9 June 1946 he was, at the time of his death, the world's longest-reigning head of state, the longest-reigning monarch in Thai history and the longest-reigning monarch having reigned only as an adult, reigning for 70 years, 126 days. During his reign, he was served by a total of 30 prime ministers.

Y# 328.1 was minted by Royal Thai Mint (RTM) and Y# 328.2 was minted by Italian Istituto Poligrafico e Zecca dello Stato (IPZS). IPZS did all processes from large plaster model sent from RTM. That's why the detail is slightly different. And the center dics made by RTM is larger than those from IPZS too.

Depicts the Royal Ceremonial Emblem on the 50th Anniversary of His Majesty the King's Accession to the Throne or the Golden Jubilee, 9 June 1996, surrounded by the inscription, date and value.

The Royal Seal of the King is featured in the middle, topped by the Chakri Dynasty crest and the Royal Crown. A double-footed gold tray holds the constitution, signifying the constitutional monarchy. Two white elephants flank and support the seal, each carrying a tiered royal umbrella. They signify the following:
• Elephants were royal carriers, symbolizing the loyal Thai subjects who serve their monarch.
• White elephants are, according to the old belief, the symbol of might, wisdom and prowess, befitting a great monarch.
• Elephants are national symbols, once portrayed on the national flag. They represent long life, comparable to the long history of the Thai nation.
