Description

In December 1995, a new set of coins and notes was issued which carried the logo of the new BSP: 5- and 1-piso and 25-, 10-, 5- and 1-sentimo, with the aim of carrying out the demonetization of all previous series by Jan 2, 1998. On July 10, 2001, BSP issued the 10-piso coin for general circulation to commemorate its 8th anniversary.

There are 3 main types of obverse:
Die I - very thick script of legend, cogwheel with low teeth
Die II - very thin script, legend far from the inner circle, cogwheel with high teeth
Die III - thick script, legend close to the inner circle, cogwheel with high teeth

Obverse

Logo of Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) within circle and gear design, 1993 (date a new BSP was established) below.

Adopted in 1993, the original seal consisted of a stylized representation of the sun hovering over mountain ranges and above the Philippine flag which was framed by a wheel.

Reverse

Head of Emilio Aguinaldo right, value and date within scalloped border. Engraver's monogram (if any) is under the shoulder of the portrait.

Emilio Aguinaldo y Famy (1869–1964) was a Filipino revolutionary, politician, and a military leader who is officially recognized as the First President of the Philippines (1899–1901) and first president of a constitutional republic in Asia. He led Philippine forces first against Spain in the latter part of the Philippine Revolution (1896–1898), and then in the Spanish–American War (1898), and finally against the United States during the Philippine–American War (1899–1901). He was captured in Palanan, Isabela by American forces on March 23, 1901, which brought an end to his presidency.
